Rampone & Cazzani is an Italian manufacturer of wind instruments, specializing in the production of handmade saxophones by highly skilled craftsmen. The company is located in Quarna Sotto (Italy). Serial numbers can be used to identify supposedly “better” instruments. It is sometimes (possible erroneously) supposed that five digit MKVIs are the best. Or you want to play a horn with a number that is close to your idol’s saxophone. As is often the case with any ‘collectible’, the lower the serial number, the more desirable. The Selmer company began manufacturing VI’s n 1954 and used a 5 digit serial number (starting with 55201). In 1963 they moved to a 6 digit number (beginning with 97301) and continued to the end of their run in 1974.

Vintage Alexandre Professionalalto saxophonemade in Italy.Cursory research indicates this was an American name for a stencil possibly made by Keilwerth or Borgani.Marked with an engraved intertwined AP on the neck, ALEXANDRE PROFESSIONAL inside a twisted ribbon oval on the right side of the bell, the bell rim has engraved decoration around it and there are flowers & leaves down the front of it.Marked ITALY below the serial number.It has a Selmer E made in France mouthpiece with it.
